After Independence, Delhi Customs made a modest beginning of export and import cargo clearance in a few roomed customs house in Talkatora military barracks (the site where now stands the modern Parliament Secretariat Building, next to All India Radio.
The Customs House shifted to the present Central Revenue Building in Indraprastha Estate in 1956 when it became operational which is now finally located in its own premises i.e. New Customs House near I.G.I Airport.
Till the year 1960 there were only about 6 or 7 Customs Agents. After the introduction of Customs House Agents Licencing Regulations 1965 a few more CHA licences were granted by the Collector of Customs.
